We have come together to commemorate those whose lives have been lost or changed through war and conflict. At this time, across Britain and abroad, people gather at churches, schools, village greens, and memorials to pay homage, using the same words and joining in respectful silence.

We will begin by placing the wreaths and crosses. Then comes the Exhortation, followed by the Last Post bugle call, after which we will observe a moment of silent stillness. The second bugle call, Reveille, will signal the end of the silence and will be followed by the recitation of the Kohima epitaph

The Exhortation

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Response: We will remember them.

The Kohima Epitaph

When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today.
