Great Oaks Cooking Highlights
Week 1: Lasagne:
Students learnt the heart of Italian cuisine, mastering the art of the "al dente" pasta layer. They focused on building depth of flavor in a rich tomato and herb meat sauce, topped with a creamy béchamel.
Week 2: Peach, Blueberry Crumble & Magic Cookies:
This week was all about the "sweet science." Students practiced the rubbing-in method for a golden, buttery crumble topping and explored textures by baking chewy, "magic" cookies packed with various mix-ins.
Week 3: Lemon, Garlic & Herb Chicken skewers & Flatbread:
Taking inspiration from Mediterranean flavours, students learned to balance aromatics in a marinade. They also practiced dough-handling skills to create fresh, charred flatbreads from scratch.
Week 4: Strawberry Cheesecake:
A masterclass in chilled desserts. Students will focus on the perfect buttery biscuit base and the delicate folding techniques required for a smooth, airy cream cheese filling finished with a fresh strawberries.
Week 5: Burgers:
Students will learn how to season and shape the perfect patty, understand the importance of heat control for juicy results, and assemble their creations with a variety of fresh toppings.
