Marshes Talk
Back
Young filmmaker Connor Carruthers from Sussex visited us on 8th July and screened his 40 minute nature documentary ‘Minster Marshes’, to our staff and students..
Part of a series of films he is making under the banner ‘The Planet We Call Home’. Connor is 16 and currently studying for his A’Levels and travelled three hours by train in order to visit us.
He met Minster Marshes-based gamekeeper George Cooper last year, who introduced him to the area and Connor was hooked!
George accompanied Connor to the screening with us, and also regaled us with his own stories from the marshlands. Connor was very keen to come and meet us and screen his film due to our setting, in the midst of the marshes, and the impact that the proposed development is having on our small nature-based school.
The beautifully shot study of our local wildlife and the imminent threat to it, by proposed commercial development, was a riveting watch for us all and the students and staff had many questions for Connor as the credits rolled.
It was an enriching afternoon for all involved, and appealed to the budding nature lovers and aspiring photographers and film-makers amongst us – both young and old. Our students told us that they really enjoyed meeting Connor and seeing his impressive and moving film. Connor also said that he had really enjoyed his visit and meeting us all and we invited him to come back after our move to our new premises when his next film is out.
